U11 boys’ hockey team train with GB player James Oates

With only a week of the hockey season under their belts, the U11 boys have kicked things off with a real treat.

During their hockey afternoon at Birley’s yesterday, the boys had the opportunity to meet James Oates, a former pupil of both Junior King’s and the senior school, who in November last year won gold with the Great Britain Under-21s at the Sultan of Johor Cup

James attended the U11 festival yesterday afternoon and ran some training drills with the boys. This was an inspiring experience for our young hockey players, who are still gaining experience in the game. Sporting a King’s jacket, James even signed autographs for the boys at the end. A really exciting way to close the day.

During his time at the senior school, James represented England at U16 and U18 level. His career has continued to go from strength to strength following his final year at King’s in 2016 and we thank him for taking the time to train with us. Perhaps we may see another hockey star grow out of yesterday’s session!
