At Junior King’s we are blessed with an enviable level of IT facilities to enhance and extend teaching and learning.

We have two recently remodeled and well-equipped computer suites: one used for teaching Computing, the other with a Design Technology focus. Both are used extensively by other subjects as required. We have suites of laptops and iPads for classroom use around the school, accessing the network wirelessly across the site.

All teaching rooms are equipped with either interactive flat panel displays or interactive whiteboards. These are in constant use throughout the day.

Forest School

The Pre-Prep is an accredited Forest School with our own Leader trained to Level 3 with other practitioners to Level 2. We have our own woodland site on school grounds – Forest Park – which is fenced in so children can work and play securely with freedom to explore at will. The aim is to provide experiential education and interaction with the natural environment which is proven to promote health, learning and emotional well-being.

A rolling programme has been set up so that each year group spends a term in the woods and experiences the changing seasons. They take part in structured tasks and themed activities combining elements of bush craft, scouting, environmental awareness and adventure play to create a fun and motivating learning tool.

Within this learning programme the children are developing a variety of life skills including independence, competence, cooperation and communication and they are encouraged to address safety issues for themselves and others. It also intends to engender respect and appreciation for woods and begin to instil an environmental ethic.

Science Labs

We have two purpose-built laboratories which can be accessed by all children in Years 5-8 with a centralised preparation area. The laboratories were completely refurbished in 2007. In them the children have access to all manner of experimental equipment, resources and stimuli.

Pupils further enhance their learning through access to a dedicated Science laptop trolley.

The Barn

The Barn is one of the oldest buildings on the Junior King’s site and one of the most architecturally significant. It has its roots as far back as 1580.

It is the main area for teaching Drama. The Barn is also used for school assemblies, orchestra and choir practice, dance, plays and concerts. In the past, it has also been used for the local horticultural society shows and other external events. We have a permanent lighting grid installed and pupils have the opportunity to learn the basics and participate in all aspects of technical theatre and backstage work, which includes helping with lighting and sound for various shows throughout the year.
