Junior House

Years 3 and 4, the first two years of the prep school at Junior King’s, are referred to as Junior House. This name originates from the time when the department was based in the Manor House. In 1999 it was moved to its current, purpose-built location. The name was kept because it embodies our aim: to provide a caring, warm and secure learning environment for the youngest of the prep school children.

The teachers and assistants working in Junior House are well trained to meet the academic and emotional needs of these young pupils. The form teacher is the key member of staff for each pupil and teaches the main academic subjects; however, the children do move around the school for some lessons with other teachers. This enables them to follow a broad curriculum and enhances their self-confidence. The forms are mixed ability and children are challenged and supported through differentiation. Form teachers are responsible for the pastoral care of the children and are overseen by the Head of Junior House.

Junior House comprises a number of bright and airy, well-resourced form rooms, dedicated changing rooms, an outdoor play area (Junior House Garden) and a well-stocked library. We also use the Barn, the church, the ICT suite, the DT rooms, the Sports Hall, the swimming pool, the Astro turf areas, and the dining hall.

We aim to nurture happy, confident children and to see smiling faces. We encourage an appetite for learning and offer a dynamic and caring environment in which children can grow and flourish.
