Debating at JKS

A year of debating at JKS culminated in a very exciting event on Monday 27th, attended by members of the Chaucer Speakers Club, Canterbury and the debating teams at KSC, and The University of Kent.  Members of our own debating society, together with parents and students who had never debated before took part in a number of workshops designed to encourage debating skills in ‘rookies’ and old-hands alike.

The ‘House’ then opened to discuss the motion for the evening: ‘This House Would: Re-introduce corporal punishment in schools.’ After an intense debate, questioning the role of schools and parents in the disciplining of our children, Alanna Fraser, (Debate Coach at KSC), with the help of some of our own children, judged the opposition as having won.

A great evening was had by all and we look forward to hearing some of our children speaking in the House of Commons one day… LT
