Academic Scholarships
Our Year 8 Scholars were based in the King’s School this week for their exams, and I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Tommy, Freddie and George on winning academic scholarships to King’s. Exhibitions were awarded to Benny and Breseya and a Headmaster’s Exhibition to Zoé. We are very proud of every member of 8L on their outstanding achievements and effort this year.
We continue to strengthen our links between the schools all the time. Today Mr Roberts took our assembly and talked about the development of the stunning new Mitchinson’s Day House at Senior King’s, explaining the links that the building has to the famous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car. He also picked up on our school theme of empathy. We also welcomed Dr Latter, Head of English, and Mr Bartlett, Deputy Head Academic from Senior King’s, to the school earlier this week.
I am pleased to announce some changes and internal appointments recently made for September. Mrs Chandler will become Assistant Head of Junior House, working closely with Mrs Anstey-Watson. Mrs Hutchings is stepping away from this role as she will be taking up role of Head of Boarding. Mr Smith will become Assistant Head of Middle School, with Mrs Pattinson becoming Head of Middle Section. Mr Allan has decided to focus on being Head of English and an Upper School form tutor, so Mr Mackenzie will become Head of Upper School with Miss Mladek as Assistant Head of Upper School. Mr Cox will be retiring from teaching and rowing at the end of this term, after a long teaching career at Junior King’s. We are delighted that he will continue to run our Library and we will still have his wisdom and expertise in the school. Mrs Chandler will become the Head of Kakas and Mr McKeating will be Head of Keas from September.
We introduced a new academic transition talk in the middle of the Year 7 parents’ meeting on Tuesday, as requested through our Parents’ Forum. Our Year 6 parents’ meeting will follow the same format, with an introduction to Upper School.
