Years One and Two

(6 and 7 year olds)

Our part in their development and learning is fundamental and we aim to bring out the very best in each child before handing them on to the Prep-School when they are seven years old.

The children in Year One and Two are taught subjects in half termly themes or topics.  They will build upon the understanding and skills taught and developed in the Foundation Stage.  As well as a daily Literacy and Numeracy activity, the children will take part in a weekly Science, Art and CDT, R.E. and History or Geography lesson.    Whole class ICT lessons are introduced and take part in the Junior School computer room and the Director of Sport takes one of the PE lessons for each year group.  Specialist teachers take a weekly music and dance lesson which leads to presentation and concert performances.    French is also taught three times a week by a linguistic specialist in small half class groups and French presentations take place during the academic year.

We do this by:
Encouraging all children Teaching with creativity, enthusiasm and wisdom,  Promoting good behaviour, Nurturing the children and providing emotional support, Involving parents and Liaising with the Prep-School to ensure a smooth transfer into Junior House.
