Junior House

The first two years of The Prep School at Junior King’s (years 3and 4) are referred to as ‘Junior House’.  This name originates from a time when the department was housed in the old Manor House. In 1999, when it moved to its current location, we retained the name, since it sums up our aim: to provide a caring, warm, secure home or house for the youngest of our Prep school children.

The staff working in Junior House are well trained to meet the academic and emotional needs of these young pupils.  The Form teacher remains the key person in each pupil’s life, teaching the main academic subjects and being responsible for their overall pastoral care. At the same time, the pupils’ confidence is enhanced as they move around the school for some other lessons, enjoying a busy day and following a very broad curriculum. Throughout Junior House pupils are taught in mixed ability Forms, they are appropriately challenged or supported according to their individual learning needs.

The Junior House department comprises a number of well-resourced form rooms, dedicated changing rooms, a play area (the delightful Junior House garden) and a well stocked library. In addition we use the excellent  facilities of the rest of the school- the dining room, the barn, the ICT suite, the Art, Design & Technology rooms and the fields, Astroturf and courts, the sports hall and swimming pool.

Our aim is for smiling faces. We offer a dynamic and caring learning environment where we nurture confident, happy children with an appetite for learning.
