Pastoral Care
At Junior King’s we believe that the social, physical and personal wellbeing of our students is vital to both their enjoyment of school life and their academic achievement. Our small classes and ‘family’ atmosphere enable us to get to know our pupils well and identify areas where each individual can be supported and nurtured.
Our pastoral care was recently recognised by OFSTED as ‘outstanding’ and their report described us as ‘dealing exceptionally well with a variety of significant welfare concerns, such as child protection, bullying, medical and behavioural concerns’.
Pastoral care at Junior King’s takes many forms. It can be seen in the resources we have available for children with special needs. For example, we have an excellent record of helping children with dyslexia, including the use of a graphologist. Our Chaplain also plays a vital role in pastoral care, both on a one-to-on basis and by promoting the Christian values that underpin our caring ethos. Junior King’s house system provides further ‘glue’ for our community, helping pupils build strong, mutually supportive networks throughout the school.
Last but not least, our well staffed and equipped medical centre enables pupils who need treatment to access it within the familiar territory of their school.
