1879

A separate Junior Department of the King’s School, Canterbury is started in Walpole House.

The Rev. R.G.Hodgson is appointed the first Headmaster of the Junior Department in Walpole House.

Ralph Juckes is appointed Headmaster of the Junior School and is the first Headmaster of the Junior School at Sturry.

Rudyard Kipling in the procession to the Barn for the blessing of the opening of the Main Block of the Junior King’s School at Sturry.

Three Dartmoor ponies arrived at the school and the Riding Club was formed.

The Junior School evacuates to the Bayfordbury Hotel at Carlyon Bay in Cornwall, where it remained until 1945

 

One of the organised activities for the boys was seaweeding because it was thought to possess some important medical substance.

1941

The High Street of Sturry is wrecked by two Parachute mines. Fortunately, apart from the roof of the Barn, the school suffered little damage.

The Junior School returns to Milner Court, Sturry.

The Junior School attend when King George VIth and Queen Elizabeth visit Canterbury Cathedral for a Thanksgiving Service and re-affirm the Royal Charter to the King’s School, Canterbury.

The Scout and Cub packs are reformed.

A new hardwood bridge is consructed over the river so that the River Field can be fully used.

The Memorial Window to Bethea Juckes, wife of Ralph Juckes, is installed and dedicated in Sturry Parish Church.

The New Science Laboratories are opened by Mrs. Newell, wife of Canon Peter Newell the Headmaster of the King’s School.

The last year of the use of the old swimming pool constructed in 1928 when the school first moved to Sturry.
