Sport

Sport for all

At Junior King’s we believe that all children can enjoy and benefit from sport. Not only as a way to let off steam and improve physical abilities and fitness, but also to help develop teamwork, decision-making and social skills.

Our sports are supported by outstanding facilities and excellent coaching, both by staff and outside specialists. These have helped Junior King’s to compete at the highest level, with recent success for the boys as national Under 11s rugby champions and the girls representing the east of England in national hockey finals. Beyond the first team, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to develop their skills and represent the school.

Children have PE and games each week, which include gymnastics, basketball, volleyball and badminton.  Boys play soccer and rugby in winter and cricket in summer; girls play netball and hockey in winter and rounders in summer. Everyone participates in cross-country running, tennis, swimming and athletics and golf.  Activities every afternoon also offer the opportunity for badminton, rowing, canoeing, creative dance, fencing, golf, judo, sailing, shooting, squash, table tennis and trampolining. Here, we benefit from sharing many of the specialist facilities that the senior King’s senior schools can offer, including its swimming pool, lake and boathouse.

By offering such a range of team and individual sports we aim to ensure that children can not only learn a variety of skills, but also find a sport that they will follow through senior school and beyond.
