Music

Junior King's has a very high reputation for both instrumental and choral music which can be measured partly by the number of music scholarships won but, more importantly, by the pleasure that so many children derive from their music-making.

Music plays an important part in life of the school. All children are taught music in the classroom, where singing, theory, composition and listening are essential ingredients. They are also encouraged to take individual music lessons and, currently, two-thirds of the school play one or more musical instruments.

The Director of Music and a staff of part-time specialists teach all orchestral instruments and the school has a thriving orchestra and jazz band.

Autumn and summer concerts, smaller recitals and a number of informal musical evenings give musicians of all standards the opportunity to play for the pleasure of others. Leading players are regularly selected for the National Prep School and Youth Orchestras.

Please feel free to contact the Music administrator, Lizza Berry, here.
