Dance

All Pre-Prep pupils, from Nursery to Year Two, participate in dance classes. They are encouraged at this young age to develop co-ordination, creative and performance skills, and a joy of moving to music. Dance has many great benefits to a child’s development; aside from the physical benefits it increases confidence and social skills.

The children follow a structured programme taught by a specialist teacher which culminates in a Year Two dance presentation in the Lent term. Christmas and summer concerts also provide the opportunity for the children to put their dance skills into good practice.

In Junior House pupils are introduced to the basic principles of Choreography through units within the drama curriculum.
In both years 3 and 4 children are encouraged through units on Musical Theatre to create expressive dance pieces which are perfromed as part of class or year group plays. Periodically dance clubs and activities are offered to pupils, and
dance performance forms a vital part of the school play when the choice of production is a musical.
